Celebrating Los Reyes Magos and “Chilling Out” After the Holidays
Now that Santa is safely tucked back in the North Pole after doing his annual Christmas deliveries, Mexicans kick off the New Year by adhering to a time-honored custom of celebrating Los Reyes Magos, or Three Wise Men on January 6.
As you explore our resort this month you’re sure to notice the festive décor you’ll find throughout – especially in our La Joya and Viña del Mar restaurants. This is the time of year when Mexicans are gearing up to celebrate the unique pre-Hispanic tradition of “Dia de Muertos” (Day of the Dead) on November 1 and 2.
For centuries people have flocked to spas to cure whatever ailed them. In fact, Mexico’s ancient cultures may have helped launch the tradition, with their ancient temazcál (from “temazcalli” meaning “steam house” in Nahuatl) ceremonies. These purifying steam baths were used to heal the body and cleanse the mind and soul.
Throughout Mexico, residents are gearing up to celebrate the traditional “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) festivities on November 1 and 2. Drawn from a combination of Mesoamerican and Roman Catholic beliefs, it is one of the most important celebrations in Mexico.
Mexico is gearing up for its annual Independence Day celebration, also known as “El Grito de Dolores” and Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach’s award-winning La Joya Restaurant has prepared a special menu in honor of the occasion.
Connecting with the Community for a Charitable Cause
In our ongoing quest to connect with the community and its worthy causes, Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun recently invited distinguished meeting planners (and their families) from the US to experience the resort for the weekend – and participate in a very special community cause.
